Welcome to the Carey Softball Season 2010!
Welcome to all who are part of softball at Carey. I hope that you have had a relaxing break and that you are energised about the coming season ahead.
Our softball 1sts team has been working hard since October last year and have already played two games. Unfortunately this was against the powerhouses of our sport, Wesley College and Caulfield Grammar, and those teams prevailed. However we start afresh this weekend as we have a home game against Mentone Grammar which will hopefully boost our confidence.
We welcomed the newest group of softballers last Saturday at Bulleen. The year 7 girls met all of the coaches and we were lucky enough to have two of our 1sts players, Jess and Amy to help out in the skills and drills. This week the year 7’s will team with year 8’s to make our Junior A,B & C teams.
Our coaching staff has also undergone some changes this year. Carey staff members Ms Carly Sparrow, Mr Andrew Ford and Ms Jo Leech have joined our junior program. In addition we have recruited the Victorian U/15 State development coaches Alisha Bell and Rob Stewart as well as Emily Curcio, who is a member of the state U/19 team and has plenty of coaching experience in the Waverley Association. Alisha coaches with the 1sts team, Rob is the Junior Program co-ordinator and Emily will coach our Inter A team.
Other Carey staff involved in the program are Mrs Mandie Long (Inters), Mr James Brown (Inters) and Mrs Jill Andrew (Seniors) as well as our long standing 1sts coach, Heather Webb and Brydie Carmichael.
Due to softball being played in Term 1 a hat is required for all trainings and games, but similarly we do also play in wet weather. Remember that all games are on during wet weather unless you are told otherwise and that each student is required on Saturdays for the whole season. Sport at Carey is compulsory. If for any reason an absence is necessary please contact your coach in the first instance.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible during the season.
Kind regards,
Victoria Blakston
