Junior A vs Ivanhoe at Ivanhoe Saturday March 20. 2010

Carey def by Ivanhoe 18 - 3

This week the Junior A girls were defeated by Ivanhoe Grammar 18-3. After a shaky start at bat with our girls being bested by Ivanhoe’s quick and accurate throws for the tag outs, we were ready to give a strong defence. Although Ivanhoe managed to score 7, this was done purely on a base by base basis thanks to our strong outfielders quickly getting those big hits back into the diamond. The second innings was much more successful, with base smarts showing from Carina Blythe, Lauren Vallely and Eddie Lewinski who managed to sneak at all the most opportune moments, preventing any forced outs. Unfortunately this didn’t show through in our last innings, with a lot of confusion on bases after an infield fly saw Ivanhoe grab a triple play. Our last innings at field gave Amani her first crack at pitching, who proved to be quite successful. Our star of the game was Olivia Bell, donning the catchers mask in the absence of our season catcher. She did a fantastic job, letting next to no balls through, and making a stunning reflex catch to grab the last out of the match.

Junior B v Geelong Grammar at Bulleen Saturday March 13, 2010

Carey def G.Gr 22 - 18

This week the Junior B girls played their best game so far.  Facing a strong Geelong Grammar side, the girls showed just how much they had improved.

Coming away with a win (22-18) could not have been done without the fantastic hitting, base running and fielding that all members of the team demonstrated.

Well done Junior B girls.

Inter B v Mentone Grammar at Carey Bulleen Saturday February 20, 2010

Carey def Mentone 16 -11

On Saturday the Inter B Softball team played Mentone Grammar at Bulleen.  The Mentone girls were much older than our young Carey team, however we were not intimidated.  Our base running is developing very well, scoring us a lot of easy runs.  We had a great game, with Carey the eventual winners on the morning with a score line of  16 – 11  Consistent performers for the morning were Mia Fitton (Year 8), Georgina Hovan (Year 10) and Izzy Stammers (Year 9).  Our main things  to work on this week is the correct stance to be ready to field and our hitting!

Junior A v Assumption at Assumption Saturday February 20, 2010

Carey was def by Assumption 18-13.

Although our girls were a little tired and seedy from the long bus ride, they still performed really well. We had some great infield plays, including a nice double made possible by smooth and quick fielding by Eliza Wade and quick thinking by Olivia Bell to throw back home after the out at first to get the tag over the plate.

Despite the long trip there was definitely some good softball in there, well done girls.

Junior C v  Caulfield Wheelers Hill at Bulleen Saturday February 20, 2010

Carey def Caulfield 19 -14

Innings one we were down 6 – 7 Innings two we were down 6 – 7.  It came to Innings three and the girls got 7 home (an improvement) then Caulfield came in to bat – we got the first two batters out in a double play – a catch in the outfield and a tagging on third – and then we got the next batter out on Strike 3 – so three straight outs and we ended up winning 19 to 14.

It was terrific play by the girls (remembering they’re all year 7s and its their 3rd game ever…)

Inter A: Carey vs Caulfield CC at Carey Bulleen Saturday Feb 13, 2010

Score: Caulfield CC-9 defeated Carey- 8

Once again the fateful one point had come to haunt us again on Saturday. The girls came out firing with their batting improving tremendously since last week, however one eventful batting dig for Caulfield in the last innings let our win slip away. With only eight players the girls fought hard and notable mentions to Demi's home run, Franny's amazing double play and Lauren's impressive catching. Well done girls, next week third time lucky and the win will be ours.

Junior A Girls vs Wesley at Wesley, Saturday Feb 13, 2010

Carey def Wesley 16 - 7

This week Junior A Softball girls played Wesley at Wesley. While our batting side was strong, it was the great pitching from Eddy Lewinsky and the star Olivia Bell at first base that helped us block out the competition in the first 2 innings. This gave us a considerable lead that couldn’t be matched. After 4 innings Carey defeated Wesley 16-7.

Junior C Girls v Haileybury College at Hailebury Saturday Feb 13, 2010

Carey def by Haileybury 14 - 12

The Junior C girls had a great game this week showing obvious improvement in their batting and fielding skills since last week. Each girl on the team contributed strongly and rotated through many different fielding positions to produce some excellent skills against quality opposition. Although, due to some close calls and some very strong batting from the opposition the girls lost 14-12 in the last innings, each player really applied themselves and produced some wonderful base-running and batting to make it a very competitive game. Well done especially to Ebony, Annabelle and Bella for their efforts.

Well done girls!

Junior C Carey V Caulfied CC at Carey Bulleen February 6, 2010

Carey drew Caulfied 24 all

The Junior C girls had a wonderful first match of the season drawing with Caulfield 24 runs all. Although most of the girls had never played softball before everyone listened to instructions and worked really hard to produce some great skills including sneaking bases. The girls also made a awesome effort of applying all the skills they had started to learn in the first couple of training sessions, producing some great batting and solid fielding from the team. Well done especially to Mercedes Poutakidis for two great catches in the field, Tiam Eljari for her pitching, Tiffany Yu for her catching and Emma Young for her base running. Great game girls, I look forward to the rest of the season.
